Chapel – “A Summer of Camping Inquiry,” led by 2011 CIP students
The 2011 Camping Inquiry Program student participants will share of their summer experiences through singing, prayer, and sharing. Convocation:”Maple Scholars: Summer Research Opportunities”
Bible & religion professor Paul Keim, co-director, will introduce the Maple Scholars summer research program. He and senior Julia Stoltzfus will also tell about their 2011 project. Students will be invited to apply for 2012 Maple Scholars projects.
Chapel: “Employee Faith Story” – Gwen Gustafson-Zook, new GC minister of worship
Join us for chapel today at 10:00 a.m. in Church-Chapel as we hear new Minister of Worship Gwen Gustafson-Zook share parts of her faith story. Being the musical person that she is, there will be lots of singing incorporated. We will also have a special “blessing” for her as she begins her time of service at Goshen College.
Convocation: “What is the DREAM Act and Why is it Important?”
Two students, Aranza Torres and Yesenia Orrellana, local leaders in promoting the DREAM act, will explain the purpose and implications of this proposed legislation.
Chapel – “Serving Christ through My Academic Discipline”
In today’s chapel we will hear from three people sharing how they are or expect to serve Christ through their academic Discipline. Matt Lehman is a senior Theater/Bible, Religion double major, but will share more from his Theater major. Saralyn Murray is a junior American Sign Language major. Kent Palmer is a professor teaching in the area of Infomatics.
Convocation: “Martin Luther King–Servant Leader” with Dr. Vincent Harding
Dr. Vincent G. Harding, a civil rights elder, historian, theologian, and peace activist, was a colleague of Martin Luther King Jr. His work for civil rights in the late 1950s and early 1960s was instrumental in the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Harding served as the first director of the King Center in Atlanta, which he helped to found, with Coretta Scott King. He published Martin Luther King: An Inconvenient Hero in 1996 while a professor of religion and social transformation at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado. Now retired, his work focuses on the Veterans of Hope Project, which he founded with his wife Rosemarie, to educate students and the public on religion, culture, active democracy, and social change through nonviolent means.

Remembered with Love” – biology professor Jim Miller
This convocation will celebrate the contributions of biology professor James S. Miller to Goshen College over the course of his 31 year tenure here. It will include storytelling by colleagues and students and a slide show developed by Jim’s children accompanied by a recording of the GC orchestra tribute to Jim at their Oct. 22 concert. Jim’s wife Linda will speak on “Things Jim Would Have Said If He Had Known He Would Die Today.”We have mourned Jim’s death. This convocation will be a time to celebrate his life.

Join us as Pete Menjares, Vice Provost of Faculty Development at Biola University, shares reflections from Ephesians 2:9-10 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

The Campus Health and Wellness committee has invited Kendra Yoder to be our guest speaker for this convocation. Kendra has a MSW degree and is a PhD candidate. She is married to sociology professor David Lind.
