Convocation – “Meditation Practices: Buddhist & Christian Perspectives” Meditation Practice
Senior Ross Weaver will introduce Sanyatha Thawalanthanne, a Buddhist monk. San and English professor Ann Hostetler will both speak about meditation practices.San will also lead a meditation and Q & A session at 4:30 p.m. in NC 19. Buddhist monk Sanyatha Thawalanthanne will follow up on his morning convocation talk with this opportunity for practicing some meditation exercises and a question/answer period.

This first Core Values Forum will explore fresh ways to view the “Christ-centered-ness” of Goshen College. After President Brenneman’s address, Bible and religion professor Jo-Ann Brant and biology professor Ryan Sensenig will respond.

Chapel: “Stories from Hebron: A Christian Peacemaker Team Experience,” Esther Kern, CPTer & GC Alum
Goshen College alum Esther Kern will speak about her recent time on CPT’s (Christian Peacemaker Team) Al-Khalil project in the West Bank city of Hebron. She will speak from Micah 6:8 and engage the audience through story-telling and photos.

Juana Bordas is an acclaimed author and speaker. She is president of Mestiza Leadership International in Denver, vice president of the board of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership and founder of Mi Casa Women’s Center.
Homecoming Convocation – Cristina Hernandez (’00) and Nancy Chupp (’87)
Instead of a chapel service, this Friday will be a special convocation to launch Homecoming Weekend. Two alumni award winners will speak. Cristina Hernandez is receiving the Decade of Servant Leadership Award. She is a design and product development consultant in Kabul, Afghanistan. Nancy Chupp is one of the Culture for Service award winners. She is a public interest lawyer in Seattle, Washington.
