Chapel: “Singing as a GC Tradition,” a hymn sing chapel
Singing together as a faith community is a long tradition at Goshen College. Though we will engage a variety of singing styles as worship throughout the year, today’s chapel will help us explore “hymn singing” as a way to connect with God and each other.
Convocation – “The Naked Anabaptist: Bare Essentials about Mennonites and Goshen College” – Prof. John D. Roth
John D. Roth is professor of history and director of the Mennonite Historical Library.
Chapel: “Nurturing my faith at GC,” Bob Yoder, campus pastor
Have you thought about how you wish to nurture your faith as a student while at GC? Bob Yoder, campus pastor, will offer some ways for students to tend to their faith formation. Local congregational pastors will also be on hand to meet with students.
Convocation – “Celluloid Christ: How Hollywood Borrows from the Story of Jesus” – Prof. Jo-Ann Brant

Chapel: “Transformed by Christ,” Tamara Shantz, assistant campus pastor
Welcome to our first chapel of the year. We’ll explore our 2010-2011 Campus Ministries theme, “Transformed by Christ,” through singing, prayer, and listening to Tamara Shantz, assistant campus minister, preach.
Opening Convocation: President Brenneman on GC as Christ-Centered
President Brenneman will welcome the campus community and introduce the Core Values theme for the 2010-11 school year: Christ-centered.

Chapel – Summer Sendings/Blessings – led by 2010 Ministry Inquiry Program participants
This is our final chapel service of the school year. It will be led by the upcoming summer’s Ministry Inquiry Program students. These students will be spending their summers in various churches across the country. They will be blessing us off to our respective summer plans, as well as a farewell to those graduating.

Convocation – “The Physics of Music: Can You Hear the Harmonics?” – Prof. John Ross Buschert
Every musical tone contains harmonics–higher tones that are produced simultaneously by the voice or instrument. This convo will be interactive, with computer displays, singers, instruments and audience involvement.
Chapel – Senior Faith Journeys by Tim Blaum, Hannah D. Miller, and Georgette Oduor
Come hear Seniors Tim Blaum (Communication Major), Hannah D. Miller (Peace, Justice Conflict Studies Major), and Georgette Oduor (Nursing Major) share how their faith has been shaped while students at Goshen College.

Chapel – “Encountering Immigration,” reflections from a Spring Break trip
Come hear the various stories and experiences of GC students who participated in the Spring Break trip to Alterna Community near Atlanta, Georgia sponsored by Campus Ministries, and Center for Intercultural Teaching and Learning.

SPECIAL Chapel – “Holding on and Letting Go,” Holy Wee chapel, including anointing
Holy Week or Passion Week marks the week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. Good Friday, the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, is a campus holiday. This chapel service will draw from our GC online devotions’ theme of ” Holding On and Letting Go.” This service will include a time for anointing.

BONUS Convocation – “Perspectives on the Anthem”
President Brenneman will introduce two thoughtful and prayerful perspectives on the playing of the national anthem at Goshen. Part of the ongoing structured dialogue that will take place over this issue through June 2011. After discussing the importance of respectfully addressing complex issues, President Brenneman will introduce two faculty members, Professor of Education and Department Chair Kathy Meyer Reimer and Professor of Peace, Justice & Conflict Studies and Department Chair Joe Liechty, who will discuss the national anthem.
Convocation -“What We Can Learn from Ethiopia and the Meserete Kristos Church about Building Peaceful Relations between Muslims and Christians” -Prof. Jan Bender Shetler
GC alum Dawit Yehualashet Kebede co-authored this lecture. He will present it along with Prof. Shetler. This convocation is part of the annual C. Henry Smith Peace lectureship.
