Chez Goshen and some pics from Caleb
Friday we were back in language classes in the morning, and at Chez Goshen in the afternoon. Every week students gather at our house where we discuss the book African Friends and Money Matters as a way of thinking about ways we all may see the world differently and some of the different values and goals that determine the way things are done here. There is a time for singing — this time Adama taught us some Wolof songs. Peter led a reflection based on one of his favorite W.B. Yeats poems, “The Cloths of Heaven.” Ardy brought the discussion topic and we talked about our observations and frustrations with gender stereotypes, expectations, restrictions and relationships here in Senegal. And we shared a meal together before student went off to their homes for the weekend. Here are some pics from this Chez Goshen time, and a collection of some pictures from Caleb over the last week.
He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven, W.B. Yeats
Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
