Goshen,IN-On Friday July 11,2014 Write On Sports interviewed Errick McCollum. He talked about how he has a good relationship with his brother C.J. McCollum.
He considered his younger brother a “tag along” when they were kids. One day they were out playing basketball and the older McCollum didn’t want his little brother to play with his friends, so when his mother saw that she told the older McCollum and his friends, “If C.J. can’t play then neither can Errick!” After that they just decided that they would let him play.
There was another time they were playing baseball and the older McCollum said,”We were being nice so we gave him a chance at bat, but we didn’t count it.”
According to the older McCollum, when he was in high school he would make sure that he would go against having house parties, drinking alcohol, and drugs, so that he knew that he would be setting a good example for his younger brother. He knew that that would be good to show him now because he knew as soon as he left high school his younger brother would have a lot of peer pressure to do those things. Even when they were waiting by the bus stop they would see a person smoking and the older McCollum would just simply say no.
Now the two McCollum brothers get along well and they even will get to see each other this upcoming weekend for try-outs. Now C.J. McCollum plays for the Portland Trail Blazers. Errick McCollum said that now he wants to play with him, even though when they were younger he didn’t want him anywhere in his sight.
McCollum said that if he had to get a different job it would be a basketball coach, because he loves dressing up and loves basketball. Then he told us that he wasn’t sure that he would want to do that because he barely gets to see his family now.
