Errick McCollum, a recent Goshen College graduate, plays in different European leagues, hoping to find a spot in the NBA. McCollum values education and character over basketball.
McCollum says that his favorite part of going to Goshen College was the people were supportive of him and cared about him, which doesn’t often happen at more competitive leagues. While at Goshen, McCollum played basketball while getting his degree in Business.
When McCollum was little he played sports year-round to stay out of trouble. He also knew that he had to be responsible for his younger brother CJ. He knew that everything he did, CJ would do.
McCollum believes that he is a serious candidate for NBA teams because he would have no problems off the court, as is uncommon for many NBA players.
“Being good academically makes you appealing,” said McCollum to Write on Sports on Friday morning. He went on to explain that then nobody has to worry that what you do might hurt their organization.
“Do more than the person next to you,” said McCollum. McCollum dose not have many problems pushing himself to be the best that he can be.
Yet as great a character and potential the young athlete is still humble. “In life you realize your just a piece of the puzzle, not the puzzle.”
