Errick McCollum always liked sports. He played basketball, baseball, and football. He was the best at baseball, but he liked basketball the best out of the three. McCollum would play with his brother and his family and by fifth grade he knew that he wanted to play basketball.
McCollum went to Goshen College and majored in business, but between classes he would he would do workouts, go to the gym, and play basketball. While walking around campus he would have a tennis ball so he could constantly be dribbling and practicing tricks to use on the court.
McCollum said ” Always be better than the next person.”
He also worked very hard on his academics because he knew that it made players appealing because coaches would know that they work hard. ” Be good academically – it makes you appealing.”
McCollum played in European basketball leagues in Greece, Turkey, and Israel. Right now he is playing in the summer league for the NBA and is still working hard. The summer league gives him the opportunity to be noticed. He practices a lot and hopes to end up in the NBA. If not, he may go back to Europe. Once his career as a player is over he would either like to use his degree in business or to become a coach.
McCollum said,”If you only have talent you won’t get very far,” and he plans to go all the way.
