Today Write on Sports met Errick McCollum in room 14 at Goshen College. We learned about how he started in his early days. Like in 5th grade McCollum new he wanted to be a basketball player. It was at the beginning of his career. Who knew that his 5th grade mind was going to be right.
In high school, he started to play three sports. “I played all three sports baseball, basketball and I even played track.” McCollum was a very active man as he grew up and he is still very active today.
McCollum learned a lot from his brother and his brother learned a lot from him. As McCollum was growing up he learned he could no longer be a fan of basketball players, because he never knew when he was going to play against them. So today he only looks up to his brother.
McCollum had never been out of the U.S.A until he went into basketball. He has been to Europe, Russia and Greece and many others.
McCollum says to “do more then the next person expects.” McCollum has always wanted to play basketball and he has advices “be good academically.” You never know when it is your time to shine. Sometimes your childhood dreams do come true and some don’t, but you got to keep working at it and good things will come to you.
