We interviewed Gaby Romo and Robby Howard at Write on Sports. In our interview Gaby spoke to us about her soccer career and how she got started. Gaby is currently going to school at IPFW and is majoring in biology and playing soccer for her school. She went to Goshen High School and played soccer there and has been playing soccer since she was six years old with her brothers.
“The people that you’re with. It’s just like a family. I don’t like being alone,” said Gaby about her favorite part of soccer.
Gaby started playing soccer when she was six years old with her four brothers. She would also play soccer at her elementary school with boys since not many girls played soccer. Her four brothers influenced her to be more aggressive since they to were aggressive. They also influenced her to be tougher and take yelling and bruising more.
When she moved up to middle school she heard that there was a soccer team for girls and right away started training so she could make the team. She made the team and played all throughout her middle school years.
When she got to high school she trained harder for a higher level soccer team. At high school she heard of a soccer camp to give her an opportunity to get noticed by college coaches. An IPFW (Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne) coach watched her play and recruited her to the college.
Gaby tried out for the Mexico U-20 national team in Chicago and made it onto the reserve team but is waiting for a phone call to see if she made the national team. Gaby is now playing for IPFW and is majoring in biology.
