Bonzie Colson has had a love for the game of basketball, since he could fit one in his hands. Growing up, Colson says he, “was always involved in basketball.” As a child, Colson’s dad was a coach in Boston, and that meant Bonzie got to be a water boy, rebounder, and all around helper with the team. “He was kinda like my role model,” Colson said when asked about his father. This may not have been the dream job for Colson, but it was just the start of his journey to fame.
Colson now is a student-athlete attending the University of Notre Dame. When asked how he is going to get better, Colson responded that he would like to work on scoring more jump shots and threes. Also, he wants to be in the double-figures when it comes to rebounds, and be able to guard different positions. During last year’s season, the men’s basketball team took a hit after losing to Kentucky, but Colson says “we know what it takes to get back,” and that is exactly what they plan to do.
“I’m very superstitious,” Colson said when talking about his pre-game rituals. Before a game, Colson must wear his special underwear, shake hands with all his teammates, ask his coach what socks he’s wearing, and much more. It may sound odd at first, but this is all crucial to Colson. He wants to be the best player he can be because his team is counting on him.
Colson is a hard working, dedicated player who will have many struggles ahead of him, as any athlete will. But using his passion for the game, Colson will go on to do many great things. In fact, he is majoring in theatre and film, which will take him into sports reporting. Even if his basketball career ends after college, his love of basketball will never fade away.
