On July 8th, Angelo Di Carlo (WNDU Sportscaster) invited Write On Sports to interview him at the WNDU Station.
While we were there, we found out about his career history and milestones.
Di Carlo was inspired to be a sportscaster by his sibling. At the age of five, he would go into his older brother’s room and read the entire sports section of the newspaper out loud to annoy and wake him up. This habit must’ve stuck, because Di Carlo went on to do the same thing for a living. At the age of 16, Di Carlo’s first job was to work behind the scenes at a local news station. From that opportunity, he applied to WNDU and became a sports newscaster. Now, he’s accumulated a lot of interesting stories to tell from this exciting occupation.
“My first story, I had to do the most difficult story I’ve had to do in my life.” Di Carlo was emotional as he recounted the day he covered this topic. The story was about a fallen soldier from Pennsylvania who died in Afghanistan. He spoke of how hard it was for him to see the family mourning, and how everyone was devastated. This event would be extremely difficult for anyone to forget about.
Some of the most memorable places he’s been were because of his job. When Notre Dame’s football team competed in Florida, Di Carlo was chosen to go with them and cover the game. He also sat right behind the bench when the Notre Dame Men’s basketball team played Kentucky in the elite eight this year. Lastly, he went to the 2010 Super Bowl in Indianapolis – for free!
Di Carlo has worked at WNDU for eight years now, and through that time he’s had many memorable experiences and stories.
