There are four seconds left in the game! He shoots… he scores! That is his 82nd point of the game! Errick McCollum, a Goshen College graduate currently playing as a point guard for the CBA basketball league in China, interviewed over Skype with students at Write on Sports.
McCollum broke a CBA record in his outstanding season last year by scoring 82 points in one game! This was such an amazing feat that his own family didn’t even believe it was real. “Do you mean 28?” McCollum’s mother asked when he told her how many points he had scored. His family only believed him when McCollum’s girlfriend, who was watching the game, called them to tell them that he did, in fact, score 82 points.
Everything before the game was perfectly normal for McCollum; he ate his Subway sandwich and took his pre-game nap. However, when the game started, everything changed.
In the first quarter, McCollum was well on his way to scoring 82 points. Already, he had scored 20 to 21 points and it wasn’t even halftime yet! Although, in the second quarter, McCollum seemingly started running out of steam.
He scored 10 to 11 points, which is still very impressive, but not quite as much as the first quarter. McCollum said that it was challenging to pace himself and keep up with the 21 points per quarter speed.
Despite the fact that he slowed down his scoring in the second quarter, McCollum was back to his previous tempo. He had scored a total of 58 points at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was the record-breaker for McCollum. He scored the last 24 points in the last quarter, four points of which he scored within the last 16 seconds of the game. This was most likely McCollum’s best game yet.
