On July 12 Write-On-Sports interviewed Tony Janzen, age 30, former student at Goshen College (GC) (2004-2008) and professional soccer player in Cambodia.
Mr. Janzen played for the C-MAC (Cambodian Mine Action Centre) FC (Football Club) until March 2016. Before he played on CMAC FC he played on an unnamed amateur team. Mr. Janzen stated that while he was Cambodia the was a lot of diversity in Cambodia. “I think once we counted,” Mr. Janzen told the class, “25 different countries in the amateur team.” Janzen also stated that “There was people from all over the world…There was a big Chinese population.” Cambodia has a big diversity.
Mr. Janzen never stated how diverse his soccer team at GC, but I’m guessing its was from 2-5 different countries. In 2006 Mr. Janzen and his team went to nationals, but they lost their first match. Janzen stated “… Joel Miller was an all-american player… James Gregor was also an all-american player.” Janzen set a school record of most victories over four years, while at GC, which to this day hasn’t been broken.
The difference of diversity between Janzen’s GC team and Cambodian unnamed amateur team (not C-MAC FC) is a big difference.
