Indiana sports caster of the year. Associated Press and United Press International broadcast honors for play by play, sports reporting, sports features, and reporting. Those are few of the many awards Turner has won, but what motivated Turner to become a sports caster?
Turner spoke about how there was only one game a week on TV so they had to listen to the radio at on interview with write on sports yesterday morning. Turner grew up in California so he would listen to the Dodgers or the Angels, which ever one was playing. Turner said about growing and listening to Vin Scully, probably the most famous sports caster ever.
“Scully painted pictures with words.” Turner said he could close his eyes and see the field see the plays. When Scully was casting on the radio.
“It was that voice on that box,” Turner said about what motivated him to go to the ball park. Turners grandfather joked that the only way to get Turner to do work around the house was to give him enough batteries so he could keep the radio going.
Turners favorite game to hear was the Olympics when America beat the Soviet Union in hockey. One of Turners favorite sportscasters Al Michaels calling the game. Al Michaels said, “do you believe in miracles? Yes I do.”Then Al Michaels just stopped talking and let the crowd take over. This motivated Turner even more. Vince Turner has worked at many places and won many awards in sports casting reporting. Today Turner is vice president of MutualBank in Goshen.
