Growing up Vince Turner would always look up to his grandfather, and eventually led him to be the man he is today. At an early age Turner would always listen to the radio, specifically Vin Scully’s play by plays on baseball. ” Vin Scully painted great picture for you” Turner stated. He considered Scully one of the greatest sports broadcasters ever. Turner would eventually become a sports broadcaster himself.
He ended up working for WTRC for 13 years as the sports director there, he would often broadcast baseball and basketball play by plays. Turner’s writing and broadcasting would eventually lead him to winning 22 Associated Press, United Press International awards and was awarded Sportscaster of the Year. Sadly, Turner retired from his broadcasting and writing career. But Turner said “I really, really enjoy change”.
Turner now works at a local bank and frequently volunteers at Bashor Children’s Home. He believes that every kid should have another chance like the one he was given as a foster child. Turner said that he enjoys “seeing lives turn around.”
