On July 13,2016 I had the chance to interview Vince Turner. He said I would listen to the Dodgers or Angels. He said if his grandpa wanted him to do something he said”just make sure I had batteries”. Growing up He lived southern California, close to Dodger stadium. When his grandparents fell too ill to take care of him, he went into the foster care system. This made him realize that he could give back helping at a house for troubled, neglected, abused children for 10 years.
He said one of the coldest game he ever did was when they traveled to a football game and the athletic director said there were already enough radio stations covering the game and they said if they could find a place to broadcast. he said sure. Turner decided to troubleshoot.
” We sat on top of the of the press box in 30 degree weather”.
I asked him who he looked up to and he said “Vin Scully” he said Scully always painted a picture with his words.
I asked him what his favorite moment was in sports and he said “When the us hockey team beat the Russian hockey team”.He remembered the announcer saying do you believe in miracles, YES.
