Stephen Brooks interviewed Sam Grewe. It took place at Goshen College. It was July 11, 2017.
On December 24, 2011 Sam found that he had a tumor in his knee. The tumor in his knee was a size of a fist. Sam had cancer in his right leg. He had 21 sessions of chemo in two years. “Two years of the disease and I almost died.”
Sam had a lot of questions in his mind like “Am I going to die?” “While I was in the hospital the Notre Dame assistant coach came in… In the hospital the Notre Dame football players visited.” The Notre Dame team adopted Sam. Grewe said “The first time being back on the team.”
Sam was in middle school when he got diagnosed with cancer. He was 13-14 years old.It took him three months to get off crunches and six months to work the leg and six months to run. “It was a lengthy process just to get used to the prosthetic.”
