Even though Sam Grewe has a prosthetic leg, he still succeeded in meeting his goals. Grewe is a nineteen year old that lives in Middlebury, Indiana. Grewe started to have some pain in his right leg. Grewe got his pain in his leg checked out. Soon doctors figured out that he had Osteosarcoma, a type of cancer.
“The tumor was the size of my fist,” said Grewe.
Grewe had to have his right leg amputated, and had to have two years of chemotherapy. Grewe went through a lot of therapy to get his leg strength back.
Grewe recovered and had to use a prosthetic leg. Grewe found what he liked to do he was in love with high jumping. High jumping was Grewes new passion.
Grewe went to the Olympics in 2016 and got a silver medal in the high jump. “Rio was my first Olympic games,” said Grewe.
Grewe won a gold medal in the world championships high jump in 2015. “I trained at Goshen College,” said Grewe. Grewe is actually going to the next world championships for high jump this Sunday, in London.
