On Thursday, July 13, 2017 Write On Sports (WoS) went on a field trip to South Bend. While we where there we went to Notre Dame where we interviewed two athletes Rex Pfluger and Samantha Murray, we then interviewed Cubs player Vimael Machin and finally we went to watch a South Bend Cubs baseball game. The Cubs played against the Quad Cities River Bandits.
Before we interviewed Pfluger and Murray we ate pizza and learned about Media Relations in Notre Dame and how they got Matt Ferrell’s brother Bo Ferrell to surprise Matt and their parents when he came home early form Afghanistan on December 21, 2016. After Pizza we interviewed Pfluger and Murray.
Plfueger is a junior shooting guard at Notre Dame. Pfluger is from Southern California where he grew up playing basketball since before he could remember his earliest memory from basketball is from kindergarten. He was in love with San Diego State University, but when he went to visit Notre Dame the aura of Notre Dame caused him to choose Notre Dame over San Diego State.
“You don’t have your mom and dad to wake you up.” Pfluger told us when he was asked about how Notre Dame changed his life.
“There will be bumps on the road, but don’t give up”Pfluger had this advice for anyone wanting to have their dream be a reality. He dreams of going to the NBA.
Murray is a senior in the indoor and outdoor track teams, and is kind of on the cross country team at Notre Dame. She started Track in 7th grade and has been doing it ever since. In High School she was a multi-sport athlete.
The Cubs lost 5-3 to the he River Bandits.
