Mishler started to play youth leagues when he was five years old. “I started to play youth leagues like soccer, basketball, and other things. As I got older I joined the high school sports teams,” Mishler answered. Mishler also played on sports teams for the high school. He started High Jump in Junior High.
Mishler’s coach asked him if he would like to stick around and help with High Jump. “I just kind of fell into it and my coach asked if I wanted to stick around and help, and I said yes.” This is how Mishler’s coaching started.
Mishler was stuck choosing between three colleges. “I was stuck choosing between Goshen College, Bethel, and Mishawaka.” He chose Goshen College because it was close to his home. “It was close to home and I had some High School friends who were going to Goshen College.” While at Goshen College, he still holds the record of the High Jump of 6’8.
