Today on July 11th Mr. Miller came to write on sports to interview him. He told us many things of what he did before high jumping like basketball and soccer. He is trying to beat Goshen College’s high jumping record. Let’s see what happened!
He was playing Basketball in his freshman year. During his freshman year, Miller left basketball, because his height didn’t correspond with everyone else and he wasn’t as fast as everyone. He has been playing soccer since middle school. He explained, ” I was on top with speed, I always loved to run so playing soccer helped me improve and get stronger.”
In his Senior year, Mr. Millers coach, has been watching him get taller, stronger , and faster. Coach came up to Miller and asked him,” You should try out for high jumping”. Miller asked “Why”. “We’ll you see you are tall, fast, and strong. That gives you an advantage.” Miller said, “I’ll think about it”. A couple days later Miller made up his mind and accepted the offer. On his first try he jumped 6 feet.
After two and a half months he went to state competitions, and he got 5th place. He jumped 6 feet and 7 inches. Goshen colleges record is 6 feet and 8 inches. He is one inch away from tying Goshen College number one record. After Miller graduated he met Kyle Mishler. Mishler is the person who holds Goshen’s record. Mr. Mishler is now Millers coach and he is helping Miller to get better, stronger, and higher.
