On July 16, 2018, Trevor Robinson and Braxston Cave were interviewed by Write on Sports. Robinson, a Nebraska native, went to Notre Dame and played in the NFL. Cave, who grew up near Notre Dame was a die hard fan. He also attended Notre Dame before playing in the NFL. However, why Notre Dame?
Cave narrowed his 42 scholarships down to Iowa, Florida, and, of course, Notre Dame. Robinson’s father stressed the importance of academics. Robinson was offered many scholarships, but narrowed down his options to Nebraska, Michigan, and Notre Dame. However, Notre Dame was the choice for both because of the academics.
Robinson played on the Cincinnatti Bengals, the San Diego Chargers, and the Atlanta Falcons after being undrafted from college, and Cave was also undrafted but signed on the Cleveland Browns. He later played on the New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions. In 2016, Cave retired because of family. He began working at Lippert Components. In 2017, Robinson retired because of family and was recruited by Cave to work with him. When asked about what is different after stopping playing, they both say that the schedule and routine changed a lot. In the NFL, you woke up and worked out and practiced. Then you had an offseason for four months. Now, you woke up and went to work. You do have, however, Robinson chuckled, “A mini offseason called a weekend.”
Now, however, these two football players are good friends. Former college friends, then NFL players, then coworkers have become friends again.
