Today July 11, 2018, Write on Sports interviewed Sammi Fisher, Kate O’Conner and Zach Martin. We traveled to the University of Notre Dame to meet with them. I am doing my story on Zach Martin. He is a Junior in college and plays baseball for Notre Dame. He’s 20 years old and is 6’6. Now let’s talk about Zach’s high school career.
In high school he earned three varsity letters in baseball at Plainfield North. He was also tabbed as No. 24 . overall prospect in Illinois and state’s No. 7 right handed pitcher by perfect game. He was slotted as the No.212 righty by perfect game. He helped Plainfield North to Super Sectionals in his final year competing for high school. He also played club for Cangelosi Black Sox. He was named 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and Second Team Central All-Region. He also collected 2015 Underclass High Honorable Mention All-America Honors from Perfect Game.
His Freshman and Junior season at Notre Dame were incredible. In his Freshman season he allowed just one earned run in six innings of work and nine appearances. He also struck out seven batters and did not allow an extra-base hit. He did not allow a hit over his final seven appearances of the year. His Junior year was even better. In his Junior year, he totaled 43.0 innings pitched and 34 strikeouts in 19 appearances during the year. He made his first career start against Saint Joseph’s in the Snowbird Classic and set a career high with 6 strikeouts. He also started Notre Dame’s 2018 home opener versus NIU and worked a career-high 5.0 IP. He collected his first career save versus Pittsburgh.
I picked Zach Martin because I was so fascinated with his many accomplishments and dedication within his career.
