Today, July 9th, Write on Sports interviewed Jason Samuel. He is the professor directing Goshen College’s radio station, 91.9, The Globe. He talked about the importance that everything around you has on you, whether it be the environment right next to you in the present or the entire community around you.
For one, a small community is one of the things that can make community powerful. Not only can you learn to know a high percentage of people in your village, which is quite beneficial, but there is more opportunity in a town with 30,000 people than a city with 3 times the size. This can effect you a lot, but also, everything you do in a community this small can also effect a much higher percentage of people.
Not only can you and everyone else’s actions have giant effects, but they can have small effects that quickly grow bigger. “It’s always the environment, the moment,” Samuel said. The present is very important because you can effect the next moment, when you end up having even more decisions.
Samuel also spoke briefly on the importance of giving off positive vibes, especially in our world that is ruled by social media. When the entire community around you is friendly, everything becomes nice. When the entire community around you is filled with hate, your entire world becomes a garbage heap.
Thanks to Samuel’s important insight, the realization that community is important is quite obvious. Using the power of community, anything can happen.
