Today we interviewed Justin Gillette at the Goshen College Newcomer Center. Gillette is a marathon runner and a very good one, too. He is ranked second in the country and fifth in the world.
Gillette didn’t like working. “I’ve always wanted to NOT work,” he told us. He didn’t exactly want a real job, either. But ironically, he actually earns money from racing and from sponsors. Gillette is now running marathons full time.
Gillette has always been a fan of sports. In the eighth grade, he ran cross country and was considered one of the best runners. He mentioned that he liked basketball, but he wasn’t very good at playing. He said that he had to decide between basketball and running. He picked running.
Gillette said that if he wasn’t a runner, he wanted to be a dairy farmer. He said that he was good at cutting wood. He thought that being a Physical Education teacher would be too hard. “I like being outside,” he explained. Even so, he mentioned that he works a lot around the house. He has two kids, so he takes care of them too.
