Gillette was just trying to be faster then the cool kids, and he got caught up in marathons. Justin Gillette, a professional marathon runner, has been running since the 8th grade, but he didn’t turn out that way over night. It took lots of hard work and lots of training, and that’s exactly what he did.
Back in grade school, young Gillette was slower than the other kids, and wanted to be faster. Gillette trained secretly by running and keeping his pace. He worked hard, and day by day, he got faster. Soon, he started competing in races. When he graduated, he started competing in much bigger races, marathons.
Before a race, Gillette trains by running 1 or 2 laps around a track, stretching, then starting the race. Gillette told us this is his career. If it wasn’t, then he wouldn’t work. Gillette is happy he has a job like this.
However, Justin Gillette has kids and a wife getting her PhD, and it is getting harder for him to do what he loves, but he is not worried. “My little girl kissing me on the cheek is much better than having people cheer for me,” says Gillette. Even though he trains with his kids by pushing a stroller, he is enjoying his life as a father, husband, and professional marathon runner.
