Justin Gillette manages to combine his job as a marathoner and his home life.
Gillette, a local marathoner, has to balance his life at home and the time he spends with his running. Gillette has to train often so that he can win races and earn money for his family.
“My job was to work hard,” he said. Running marathons may be his job, but to him that doesn’t mean running time can’t be family time.
Gillette has two children ages one and four who he takes running with him on a regular basis. About 80 of the 110 miles he runs each week he runs with his children, bringing them along in a jog stroller.
During the interview Gillette said that his “kids are more fun than winning any race.” When he isn’t training or away running a race, he gets to spend his time at home with his children.
Gillette also enjoys running and racing with his wife Melissa, who just earned her doctorate from University of Notre Dame. He talked about how he likes having the time with her to be able to bond with his wife. He also enjoys that him and his wife are able to earn matching trophies when they both win the race. Racing with his wife makes a fun and competitive activity for the both of them.
