Justin Gillette came to Wright on Sports today and we interviewed him. He talked about a lot of things, but one of the things I focused on was what he does before a race. When he wakes up, two hours before the race, he would have a bowl of oatmeal. After his bowl of oatmeal, he would jog around. After he got to the race, Gillette would do some stretches for ten to fifteen minutes.
One thing that Gillette always had was something called GU Energy Gel. They are just calories in gel form, and there are many different flavors such as cherry lime, black raspberry, chocolate, mocha, and stuff like that. “I always keep some at home that I like, then bring them to the race,” said Gillette. He keeps three of those energy gels during his races. He takes one five minutes before the race, then he keeps two in his back pocket and takes them during the race. It helps him do better.
