” I’ve always wanted not to work,” said Justin Gillette, which is good for him because running is his full time job.
When Justin Gillette started running, he was doing it to beat two kids in his class, Ryan and Chris. They all had to run a mile for school and Gillette was one of the slower kids. He didn’t want Ryan or Chris to win so he was secretly training to win. He did win and that is when his running career began.
The first time Gillette ran a marathon was on his graduation day. He is now the number two marathon runner in the country and number five in the world. For a while he was running twenty-four miles a day until sadly he got an injury in his heel (plantar fasciitis). He was out all of September 2013 but was back in December. He started having problems again in February so he had a procedure to fix it.
Gillette is now back in running and plans to run 20 more races this year. Running has really “opened up the world for traveling,” he says. He hopes to run in all 50 states and to win more races with his wife. As Gillette said, “It’s a good life.”
