Errick McCollum has a very strong relationship with his younger brother C.J. Even as a teenager McCollum always tried to set a good example for his brother who doubles as his best friend. And since he has had a career in basketball he has decided that “the only person I’m a fan of is my brother.” It seems that their relationship is and always has been happy and healthy he said it is something that he “wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.”
McCollum not only tries to set an example for his brother, but also to the other young people who want to have a career in sports. He advises children to focus on academics and not just sports. He said it is important to practice often, he for example would practice between classes. He focused on how important practice is saying that “if you only have talent you won’t get that far.” It seems that to him academics are just as important as sports, stating that if you practice you will get better. And I believe he wasn’t just saying that about, sports but about life in general.
If there was someone McCollum set an example for more than anyone else, it would be his brother. When McCollum was young he would often see people around his home while he was with his brother seeing people do frowned upon things. McCollum decided to take it as his job to set the example for his brother by saying no to smoking, alcohol and other dangerous and illegal things, especially while in front of his brother. He wanted to show his brother what was the right thing to do. This is just one of the reasons why their relationship as brothers and friends has continued to stay strong.
