Gaby Romo graduated from Goshen High School and is now going to IPFW where she is majoring in Biology and playing soccer. This is her story.
Romo started playing soccer when she was six. She would play during recess at her elementary school, West Goshen. She would always play with the boys because no other girls played. That is where she learned to be aggressive and learned how to deal with lots of yelling.
Romo didn’t know there was an actual soccer team in middle school until her older brother told her. She worked really hard and prepared for try-outs and hoped to make the team. She did.
After middle school she also learned there was a high school team so over the summer she trained even harder so she would make the team. Once again she made it.
Romo was also focused on academics. She was in the high honor role all four years of high school and was named Academic All-State twice.
IPFW wanted to recruit her after watching her in a club game, but they wanted her to decide in a month whether or not she wanted to go. She thought about it and decided to accept. She got a full ride scholarship for her soccer and continues to play there.
Romo hopes to become a pediatrician when her soccer career is over.
She is now going into her second year of college and hopes to play soccer for the next three years, but that is as far as she thinks she will go in soccer.
