Today Write on Sports interviewed Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW) student-athlete Gaby Romo. Romo is a sophomore forward and midfielder for the IPFW Mastodons. But before her college career Romo played for Goshen High School and the Indiana Invaders, which was how she was spotted by IPFW recruiters.
During Romo’s junior year in 2011, she led her varsity soccer team to the sectional championship. In their first game on their road to victory the Redskins had to play Northridge, a team that was ranked in the top 20 in the state. The game was tied 3-3 when the two teams went to a penalty shoot out, which Goshen won 5-3. They soon went on to win the sectional championship.
After Romo graduated she decided to attend IPFW on a full-ride athletic scholarship. In her freshmen year playing for the Mastodons, Romo averaged 1.05 shotes per game and 0.21 goals per game.
Going into her sophomore year at IPFW, Romo said that she’s only going to be playing soccer for 3 more years.
“You have to work hard and never give up.”
If Romo keeps on working hard her last 3 years will be 3 years of glory.
