Gabby Romo was still in high school when she was given 1 month to choose where she wanted to go to college. She had been playing soccer for many years and was playing for the Indiana Invaders when a college coach told her she wanted her to come to her school. She only had one month to decide. She decided to say yes to the coach and go to IPFW to further her education on a full ride scholarship.
To Romo, there was a big difference between high school and college. They had practice every morning, and she was tired before her school day even started. During Romo’s first semester of college she said she had a hard time adjusting and that the soccer was different.
“It’s like your job,” she said.
Between practice and classes she had little time to eat and often had trouble paying attention for her first semester. She also said that she had large amounts of homework, especially on the weekend, the same time when her team traveled for games. She had trouble focusing on her work on the loud bus but managed to do it. But after the rough first semester, Romo became used to the college life type and had a much better time, both mentally and academically.
Now Romo still plays soccer for IPFW and still enjoys it just as much if not more than she did when she first started.
