“I’m up to the challenge,” Gaby Romo said.
Romo is a soccer player at IPFW. Romo started playing soccer when she was 6. She has 4 brothers, and she played with boys. Growing up playing soccer with boys Romo learned to be an aggressive player.
When she was in middle school, Gaby Romo found out that there was a middle school team. Romo decided to try out and she made the team. Romo’s coach told her that if she wanted to be on the high school team more training would have to come. “Train, train, train,” Romo said.
When Gaby Romo got to high school she tried out for the team, and she made it. When Romo got onto the team she trained even harder. Romo was surprised that there was a high school team.
She was even more surprised when her coach told her there were college teams. Romo played in many places, and she was offered an academic and athletic scholarship at IPFW. Romo loves playing soccer, but it took a while to get there.
“It’s another family. You’re not alone,” Romo said.
