Errick McCollum is a perfect example of why hard work pays off, because when he was a kid he was passionate about the sport of basketball. When McCollum was in school he would always strive to get the best grades he possible could.
“When all the other kids were at parties I was at home studying and getting my homework done or I’m in the gym”said McCollum.
Also, McCollum and his brother , when they had free time, went and played some friendly competition. They would play anything from 1-on-1 to pig or horse. And he definitely feels like all that hard work payed off in the long run.
“If you want something you have to work for it and get it”McCollum said.
Then finally when McCollum’s High Schools career was over, he found his way to goshen college. When he was on the goshen college team his favorite part was doing the things he loved. Since he lived four hours away he did not get to see his family that much, because at this time he was playing basketball and was trying to focus on his school work as much as possible. One of the most important thing Errick McCollum did in his college (not only play very well) but he made it on ESPN’s top ten, which helped him get the long time agent he has now .
“Give glory to god in everything you do”said McCollum.
Now that McCollum’s graduated from college, he is playing over sea in China. Also, his brother C.J. McCollum made to the NBA and is the point guard for the Portland trailblazers. McCollum (Errick) is liking playing in China and is still not trying to chase the NBA.
“Big risks comes big reward” McCollum said.
And McCollum has been doing very well in China’s league. In one game he scored 82 points! He set the new record for most points in one game. And even though he is doing very well there still is a lot of difficulties with living in a new country. For example, food is not the same and the language is different, so on the basketball court it is hard not talk and to understand what other people are saying. But he is still in the gym everyday shooting at least a thousand shots a day.
“You are never as good as you think and it is never as bad as it seems.” says McCollum.
