As a freshman in college Sophia Sears was playing for the Goshen College basketball team. Her freshman season they won 3 games but there team was a lot of freshman and sophomores and had about three freshman students and they were still getting use to playing at the college level. Next year Sophia eased to getting use to playing at the college level. Sophia’s Junior season was a huge step for her and her team they made it to the NAIA final four which was the farthest run of any Goshen College team in history. Then she got the honor of athlete of the year that season.
But that’s not what i’m here to talk about. While she was playing basketball she was earning a diploma for biochemistry. she said the biggest struggle for her that the first two years Sophia would wake up at eight a.m. and go to her classes and the go straight to basketball from her classes. Sophia even said if she wasn’t playing basketball she would be doing homework even on the bus ride home right after a game. After her senior year she finally got her diploma in April, 2017.
Now her hopes is to go to Louisville to get her Phd. She was either going to go to Louisville or Notre Dame to get her Phd but then decided to go to Louisville because when she was a kid she liked Louisville university’s basketball team. When she gets older she wants to study cancer but abandoning her childhood dream of being a dog trainer. It will be a hard five years but she thinks it will be worth it in the long run.
