Stephen Brooks is a great sports reporter for the Goshen News. He is in the sports section almost everyday writing about issues in sports, but he wasn’t always into writing stories. In fact for a while he didn’t like writing. Early in middle school he didn’t enjoy writing at all. He knew he was a good writer. “It struck me that I was good,” but it wasn’t until his early teens that he started to enjoy it. “It was the perfect match” Brooks told reporters during an interview.
I have always wondered how reporters were able to write so much. At the interview, Brooks was asked about the difficulty of writing stories so often. “It can be hard,” he said. “Sometimes you try as hard as you can.” You can ask to talk to somebody, but if they do not want to talk, it is their right to turn you down. “In these three summer months it can be hard.” to find something to write about. “You take ideas from other little pieces.”
Stephen even got some recognition for his great work. he was awarded second place for the Hoosier State Press Association. He said it was cool to win the award. “I don’t do the job to win awards,” Brooks told reporters, “I just try to do really good work, and hopefully when award time comes around, other people think it’s good work too, it’s a competitive business.” he writes for the Goshen news and sometimes announces high school games.
Brooks is an excellent writer and announcer, and I am glad that he could come and talk to us.
