Write on Sports interviewed Rex Pflueger at Notre Dame. It was on July 13, 2017.
Rex started playing at the age of 4-5 years old. His dad started him into sports. Rex grew up in Mission Viejo, California. He played sports all the time. When he is watching basketball his role model is Kobe Bryant. When he isn’t he role model is Tom Brady.
Rex went to two high schools and had to choose what sport he would play. He had to drive 50 minutes to school all the time. He was the 2015 Southern California Player of the Year in high school. “In high school I’d watch games on games on games to try to pick up stuff from everybody.” He participated in the 2014 Kevin Durant Skills Camp, Lebron James Skills Academy and the American Family Insurance High School dunk contest.
In his freshman year he tipped in the game-winning rebound in 1.5 seconds left. Sophomore year he logged a career high 35 minutes in the victory over Georgia Tech scoring six points with four rebounds and three assists. Rex won the 2017 Notre Dame Defensive Player of the Year and the 2016-17 All-ACC Academic Team.
