On July ,11 2018, Write on Sports went to interview Sammie Fisher and Kate O ‘Conner. Both girls were rivals from a young age. They grew up playing each other in high school in California. When they finished there high school they signed a contract for Notre Dame.
Sammie Fisher was two-time California interscholastic federation player of the year and first team all-CIF Honoree. She appeared in 20 games in her high school year. Her freshman year, she scored 7 points on three goals with one assist from a teammate. She scored a season-high of two goals in Notre Dame’s 4-3; a victory at Florida state. Her coach, Romagonolo said, “Sammie brings the unique ability to break down defenses with her passing or dribbling. She is an offensive threat out of the midfield and has showed herself to be a big goal-scorer out of that position”.
Kate O’ Conner was in a high school team that was a CIF Southern Section Division 1 of the Finalist during her junior year. She served as high school team captain in her senior year of high school. Took 10 shots, including four shots on goal as her high school year of high school. Her coach Romagonolo suggests, “Kate is a versatile player who can impact both the midfield or back line. She is a great defender and also a connector. She is extremely competitive and has been a part of many successful teams.”
These two rivals, who once played against one another, now play for the same university of Notre Dame. Once they became teammates, they then, became friends. If they did not go to the same university, they may not have become friends.
