On July 10, 2019, we went to interview Chris Finke at Notre Dame. Chris wasn’t recruited to play football at Notre Dame but he got onto the team as a walk-on. When Chris was in high school, a Notre Dame coach went to recruit another student at his high school. His high school football coach introduced him to the Notre Dame coach, and Chris and the coach talked for a while. The coach offered him a place as a walk-on at Notre Dame. That’s when Chris wanted to go to Notre Dame. Chris was such a good walk-on that he got a walk-on award. He shared what life is like as a student athlete.
Chris talked about what he does before a game. All the coaches, staff, and players go to a hotel and talk about how they are going to do stuff. Chris also visualizes positive things the morning of a game. The whole team practices with a recording of a crowd so they won’t be distracted when they go to a game.
The most insane game he played was when he was playing in hurricane weather. There was standing water in the field and nobody could catch the ball. That day Chris lived up to his nickname: Slippery Fox.
Chris is thankful for being in Notre Dame and the team.” My coach let me get my opportunities and let me try to prove myself and I am really grateful for it.”
