2006 Goshen College summer sports camps offer opportunities for youth

 

GOSHEN, Ind. – From basketball and soccer to shot put and volleyball, parents and kids alike have the opportunity to engage in a number of sports for the 2006 summer through Goshen College’s summer athletics program held in the Roman Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center.

The Father-Son Basketball Camp is scheduled for June 9-11 and July 21-23 in the Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center
. This weekend event with a Christian perspective provides a wonderful opportunity for fathers and sons to bond, while learning and playing basketball in an overnight camp setting led by Goshen College coaches. Registration is open to boys in grades 1-8. Cost: $295 for fathers and sons (includes lodging, meals, T-shirts and a basketball). For more information, call Stan Daugherty at (574) 535-7493.

Goshen College Field Event Camp, hosted by GC Track and Field, will be held June 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. and June 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This camp will provide junior high and high school athletes with expert coaching and training drills, by coaches from Goshen College and local area high schools, in pole vault, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus. Goshen College Volleyball Camp is running June 19-23 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center
. This volleyball camp, open to girls and boys ages 8-18, features specialized instruction in volleyball skills and strategy. Cost: $100. For more information and to register, contact Jewel Lehman at (574) 535-7658 or jlehman@goshen.edu .

Goshen College Soccer Day Camp will be July 11-15 on the Goshen College soccer fields
. This fun-filled soccer experience will give players all the tools they need to become better as they are trained in proper soccer technique. Kindergarten Kickers, ages 5-6 years old (cost $65), will meet 10-11:15 a.m. Students in grades 1-8 (cost $175) will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The camps will be directed by Thavisak (Tavi) Mounsithiraj, head coach of Goshen College men’s soccer team and 2005 MCC Coach of the Year.
