Controlled Prairie Burn
Part of maintaining and promoting a good healthy native landscape is periodic prescribed fires. One of the best times to do this is just before things start to green up for the summer.
In recent years, as part of our ongoing sustainability efforts, Goshen College has restored several acres of campus lawn to native landscaping. In order to promote this native landscape it is very helpful to simulate naturally occurring fires by establishing a controlled burn. Burns are beneficial in that they control weeds and help the natives become established.
